The Godswar Chronicles

The Story Thus Far...

During the summer of 1127, on the continent of Zaelek, King Belar of Ostwyn led his armies in a rebellion against the Empire. In a night, the traitorous King had seized most of the continent in the largest coordinated attack in recorded history. It was during this night, in the small town of Wayrest, that this story begins.

At the Wayrest inn a bouncer, two brothers and a mage met, and what began as a cool acquaintance evolved into a fast friendship by the end of the night. It was as everyone was turning in to bed that Marc headed out into the night for a breath of fresh air. As he wandered he stumbled upon a group of soldiers accompanying a red-robed mage; little did he know that these were the King’s own men. Rushing back to the inn and enlisting the help of Joel, the two companions reached the clearing with the mage just as the mage’s shield was completed, sealing the town inside. While Joel and Marc talked about what they were going to do, the mage and what can be assumed as other red-robes began a fire bombardment of the town.

The two companions fled back to the town to find the building on fire, including the inn where their friends were sleeping. Acting quickly everyone escaped and the four new allies began to carefully make their way out of town. As they came back to the clearing they found that some of the mage’s guards had left. Taking advantage of the situation the group attacked and defeated the small group. Leaving the town for dead, the party fled into the hills.

After the party had recuperated, they began the long trek to Ostwyn, to warn the King of what had happened at Wayrest. As they travelled they discovered that Wayrest wasn’t the only place attacked, and that Morfield, as well as more small settlements had also been struck. Their hopes rose as they progressed further south as it appeared that the conflict hadn’t reached the capitol yet.

Return of the Dragons

Lord Sul’Imi Veskel gathers the party in his sitting room, where the goddess Shelyn sits waiting.

Shelyn: It has been only a short while since we saw each other last and I can see you have all grown much. I can only hope that you are ready for what is to come.

Veskel: Shortly I will teleport you to the ruins of Ostwyn, a short walk from the breach in Rovagug’s prison. Once you enter I will no longer be able to do anything for you, my will is nothing compared to a god.

Shelyn: My blessing will protect you all from Rovagug’s will, aside from that I can’t do much more. One you have weakened him, We will reseal his prison. Good luck friends.

He gathers his power and teleports the party to a blasted wasteland that used to be Ostwyn. As they walk through the ruins, light begins to grow dim and they see a black sphere floating in front of them. Fight rovagug.

Aftermath, the young elf boy steps from the ruins and summons Rovagug’s blood from the ashes and creates an orb, smiling he disappears.

It is 20 years since the fateful day that the four heroes sealed away the great evil and the gods returned to the world they had created. For the most part things went back to the way they were, armies returned homelands and the peoples affected began to rebuild.

The humans of Zaelek returned to the wasteland that used to be the southern half of the continent and relinquished all claims to anything above the southern peninsula. Under the leadership of Lady Elise Welkynd, the surviving humans took on the name of The Black Watch; sworn to guard against the return of the Destroyer, and abstain from the quarrels of the mortal world. With their self-imposed oath the cities of Dorwick and Freyton were abandoned and Morfield became little more than an outpost for the Black Watch.

In the city of Orlea our companions are found around one of the many city squares. It is mid-day and the market is teeming with life; wagons are driving by, people are crying wares, and bakeries and inns smell of a multitude of foods.

Alarms begin to sound throughout the city and panic grips the streets.

The skies begin to darken as the sun is blocked by the wings of blue and red dragons and the ground begins to shake. Fire and lighting rains down from the skies, exploding the pavement and building around the city.

A group of soldiers run by led by Princess Alice Calruthian. “Get these people to safety!” she yells and then is gone. The soldiers split up and begin ushering people down streets and into basements.

Things begin to fall from the dragons flying overhead and soon the party is surrounded by Drow.

After the party defeats the drow, they have a chance to look around. The city is on fire and there are dragons flying overhead still, arrow and spears are flying through the air. Suddenly in the distance to the west a bright red pillar appears, then another to the south, and suddenly one appears from the lake with a roar. To the east another pops up.

The ground heaves and knocks people to the ground, and a sound permeates the air itself until it is all that can be heard; A sound as though the planet itself is groaning in pain. After about 10 minutes the red pillars disappear and the sound stops. There is a lull in the fighting as people try to regroup, this gives the party a chance to escape. Escape routes include the Dock, the east, north, south gates.

If the party looks around they will be able to see a city floating in the sky.

Having escaped the city the ragged group looks back upon the burning walls. The attack had come without warning and the greatest city on the planet had fallen like wheat before the scythe. With one city burning before them and another floating above, the group decides on their next action; as Marc and Vince fly to Luminus to meet with Sul’Imi and En’Iso Veskel, Mike and Joel make their way west to the Dwarven capitol.
